If you haven’t yet… read Part I first!

******

The thought that I might actually be ready to push still had not crossed my mind.  I didn’t know why my body was telling me to push, but I figured it couldn’t possibly be because I was actually ready to push.  I had only been in labor for about 35 minutes at this point.  Regardless, the urge to push just became more and more pronounced.  My body started pushing on its own.  Three or four contractions after the phone call I knew I couldn’t help it anymore.  I told Jake, “I can’t do this anymore!”

I thought perhaps I needed to go to the bathroom and that’s why my body felt like it needed to push something out?  I wasn’t having much time in between contractions, but I needed to do something.  So, when my last contraction ended, I got up and walked to the bathroom.  I didn’t say anything to Jake; I was still in super-focus mode and needed to stay there.  Evie followed me, but Jake stayed in the living room, slightly...

8lbs 8oz – 19 in.

We hadn’t had rain in months.  It was one of the driest summers the area had seen, but that night we had a marvelous thunder storm, complete with plenty of rain.  In the back of my mind was the thought that many labors begin during a storm; I think it has something to do with the change in air pressure that can trigger labor.  And sure enough I had plenty of contractions through the night.

I was awake much of the night, whether from the contractions or from my mind’s inability to slow down, I’m not sure.  I was cautiously optimistic; this was not the first night I had been visited by plenty of contractions; in fact, I had been having similar contractions for two weeks.  I tried to sleep and waited to get excited until the morning.  They always disappeared by morning.

And, as anticipated, these ones did too.  I woke up the next morning with no contractions and no real sign of labor.  I was slightly disappointed, bu...

As you may have already guessed… we didn’t end up live blogging the birth…  I promise that I will post a birth story as soon as I have it written down, but with a labor short enough that even the midwife missed the event – I hope you won’t feel too left out that the blogging world missed it too!

In any case, I wanted to post an update for everyone.  Stephen was born on the 19th in the afternoon (his grandpa’s birthday!) and he is doing absolutely wonderfully.  He has nursed like a champ from the beginning, no pain or soreness at all!  With Evangeline it took over a month to get to a comfortable point.  When I think about it, almost everything is different this time around.  They are both equally enjoyable and lovable, but definitely unique!  I suppose if you know one baby you certainly don’t know them all.

We are looking forward to learning more about our Little Man as he continues to grow.  Evangeline is doing marvelously with her little brother.  There is...

I have officially sorted, packed, organized and repacked every single item we own.  Isn’t moving great?  It at least feels good to purge so much clutter!  And moving twice in two years sort of gives you that little bit of extra motivation to throw out those things you just couldn’t bring yourself to toss the first time.

One interesting piece of nostalgia I ran across was my old high school basketball warm-up CD that my dad put together for me.  I had to laugh at many of the songs on the mix… but good memories nonetheless.  And that was the inspiration for the name of my post today.  Although, it has absolutely nothing to do with my topic!  Well, maybe not nothing.

Music has a very strong ability to induce certain emotions and attitudes for the different situations in our lives.  That’s why I put together a birthing playlist this time around.  And although I don’t think my high school warm up CD and my birthing playlist will have even one song...

So… tomorrow is an important day.  Starting tomorrow I will officially be in full-on countdown mode for baby’s arrival.  Three weeks!  Tomorrow my midwife can legally assist me in a homebirth should I go into labor, although I do hope Baby waits a little longer than that.

Don’t get me wrong, I am SO excited to meet the little one!  But we have quite a lot left to do before then… or at least a lot that I want to get done before then.  Most importantly my oils haven’t arrived yet…  Oh, have I not told you about my oils?

You see at my last birth a good friend came and sprayed some nice smelling water on a damp washcloth, and when I used it to cool off it took the edge completely off of my contractions.  It was heavenly.  I had stumbled upon the wonderful world of aromatherapy.

Unfortunately, at the time, I was not in a frame of mind to make sure they kept the damp washcloths coming!  I was a little distracted if ya know what I mean… but afterwards, when I remem...

I have had so many wonderful Mommy moments this week.  Yesterday Jake took Evie to the park and as she was holding his hand and walking away she strained her neck to turn around and say “I love you!”  It melted my heart… not to mention the most wonderful bedtime routine ever last night.  We read a book, said prayers, sang hymns and she just fell right asleep – it was awesome!  Took less than twenty minutes. WOW – thank you baby girl!  It may or may not have had something to do with the fact that she didn’t take her nap earlier

Jake also got to feel Baby kicking lots.  For a whole minute Baby was high fiving Daddy’s hand.  It’s always so sweet when they are able to interact a little.  With a rambunctious toddler we don’t get to spend as much time focusing on the Baby as we did with Evangeline.  Hopefully, as we prepare for birth in the next couple of months, we will be able to focus a little more on the coming little one.

I can already tell that th...

So, at the beginning of the year I posted all of my resolutions and promised that I’d keep you updated on the progress.  Umm… sorry about that.  So, in the spirit of doing what I say I’m going to do – here’s an update!

  1. Post a Series on Headcoverings… Haha… haha… ha. Ahem.  I have been working on this just about as often as I’ve been working on my other blog posts… if that tells you anything…  Although, I did read a wonderful blog post on the topic recently which I would highly recommend. There, now you have something thoughtful to read while I drag my feet.  I do feel better, thank you for asking.

  2. Clean the Kitchen and do the laundry – Every Day… Actually, progress in this resolution is the reason why I’m blogging today!  I finally got myself into a routine after the craziness of March.  I have a loose schedule I have been working from this week and it’s going very well!  Today is the second day in a row I’ve done EVERYTHING I planned to do – and I have...

For it is my birthday.

It is SO difficult to blog again after you have been gone for so long!  I’m worried about what all of my readers will think that I just abandoned them.  And, although I think it rarely happens, you always worry about everyone judging for leaving and not saying one single word.  Well, ok, so I know that in my head no one will do that – but it’s just one of those things you dread anyway, ya know?

But today is my birthday SO no judging allowed!  On a positive note, my long hiatus from blogging is actually good news for my house, as things are finally starting to come together for our spring schedule, Evie’s new school year and our new diet are all going fabulously.  We axed corn without too much of a problem (I have a post ready for that…).  We’re working on soy now and… it’s MUCH more difficult.  There seems to be nothing we can eat!  We really need to make a trip to the health food store to get some bread since ALL of the bread at our local grocery either...
